Why do we take photos ? Officially it is to store a memory so as not to forget a beautiful scene. Many photographers photograph things that they are afraid of losing and hence confront their own fears of loss of youth and beauty or wealth. Some people photograph for egotistical reasons to show that “they were there” or were in contact with certain persons or situations. Some people photograph for reasons of vanity. Many of the motives for photography seem to be “causes of suffering” in the Buddhist sense. Is this undesirable or is it therapeutic ? Do all types of photography need an audience ? Sometimes the actual act of taking a photo is the important feature, and not the resulting photo. What is your opinion and motivation for taking photos ?
