This photo proves the theory that when we go to higher altitudes, cosmic background radiation increases. Normal background radiation in my home in Chiangmai city, Thailand (320m ASL) is around 22 CPM (counts per minute) whereas the cosmic background radiation at Doi Pui Hmong Village (1500m ASL) seems to be around 34 CPM (see photo above). This increase is not really due to being “closer to outer space” but has more to do with the thinner atmosphere and reduced quantity of atmosphere between the higher altitude and outer space. The granite substance of the mountain probably also contributes to this increased background radiation.
